Naturally, there are revelations on both sides: Annabelle is 'troubled' in traditional movie methodology, while Simone is clearly a closeted lesbian trapped in a loveless affair (with a man), and of course Annabelle's classmates almost all find lesbianism 'icky.' Of course these are all mere obstacles in the way of a Simone-Annabelle hookup, though Simone fights it tooth and nail before finally giving in.
While this outcome is telegraphed all along, what's not so clear is that once the relationship is consummated, the movie abruptly ends. 71 minutes into the picture. I won't spoil the (extremely minor) event that comes after they get dressed, but it's nothing you won't expect from frame one. Was there more of this movie that just didn't get made? Did they run out of money? Loving Annabelle gets interesting at the very moment the credits roll, and that's a shame, because it's otherwise a lush-looking film that has an extremely timely news hook to it. Presumable Brooks is unwilling to face facts in the end... that, you know, Simone probably shouldn't be having sex with one of her students.
Both Gaidry and Kelly are capable performers, and their work here should qualify them for wider recognition, but the script from writer/director Katherine Brooks (best known for work on a variety of reality TV shows), is almost criminal in its lack of a third act and serves up some real howlers that the actors nonetheless dutifully recite for Brooks' soft-focus lens.
An alternate ending (again, no shocker here, it's Annabelle going to the beach), commentary, and deleted scenes round out the DVD.
