The White Diamond is actually a tiny blimp, the life's work of one Dr. Graham Dorrington, designed with a singular purpose: To explore the rain forest canopy from the tops of the trees. In itself it's not much of a story, but Dorrington eventually reveals that his obesssion is drawn in part from his good friend Dieter Plage, who fell from a similar blimp 11 years earlier, landing with a thud only a few feet away from him. Dorrington's stories about building his funny little blimp are whimsical to the point of irrelevance -- there's nothing terribly exciting about this technology, to be honest -- but when he talks about Plage, the film ascends to some dizzy, emotional heights. Worth a peek.
