To be honest, I can't see what the hubbub's all about. Ultimately this is a garden-variety ghost story -- in this case, a girls' school with a strict headmaster and a murderous spirit who may be offing folks. As usual, the rising body count and inexplicable blood stains on the wall don't convince anyone to take a vacation, but you may want to after trying to dissect the twists and turns mixed in with the movie's running psychobabble commentary. Technically, the film is average at best, with random shot selection and awkward editing. And I've seen more than a few of these scenes in other films, verbatim.
Whispering Corridors has earned praise for -- in its own, strange way -- attempting to expose the harsh conditions of the Korean school system, and though I know nothing about the topic, I figure that's commendable. Using a horror film as the medium for such a statement seems a questionable choice, But hey, maybe you can think of that as just one more weird twist.
