Godfrey Reggio's first film must have blown some minds back in 1983. Composed entirely of panoramic video played at varying speeds to a Philip Glass score, the movie explores man vs. nature -- here under the loose theme of 'life out of balance.' Segueing from clouds to construction sites to commute videos to spaceships taking off, the theme here is really the same as all of his other features. (How is this really any different than 2002's Naqoyqatsi ('life as war')?) Still, the pictures are often haunting and the score trumps most feature films handily.
