Castaway

A film review by Christopher Null - Copyright © 2000 Filmcritic.com

More than a decade before Survivor ruled the TV waves, Castaway told the story of two strangers who opt to live as man and wife on a remote Australian island in order to... well, not to win a million dollars, at least. When Oliver Reed puts an ad in the personals to find his new mate, saucy Amanda Donohoe responds.

It's off to the island. Reed promptly goes insane. Donohoe promptly goes naked. Thank God it isn't the other way around.

Curious and interesting yet ultimately hollow, Castaway shows how tough island life can be, and how easy it is to slip back into civilization.
