Alice (1988)

A film review by Christopher Null - Copyright © 2004 Filmcritic.com

The world's creepiest rendition of Alice in Wonderland. This outing includes but one actor -- Alice herself -- and a gaggle of stop-motion animated creatures. Extremely disturbing -- from the cockroaches to the attacking fowl claws to the phallic socks burrowing up through the floor and crawling about the place -- I wouldn't dream of showing this rendition of the story to a kid. All the dialogue is spoken by the girl, with cuts after every single line to a close-up of her mouth for attribution of the quote (eg. "said the March Hare.") This gets old, fast, but for adults trying to remember that first acid trip, though, it's a winner.
