A quartet of scifi flicks are among the nominees for this year's Cinema Audio Society Awards, which recognizes achievement in sound mixing. Avatar, District 9, Star Trek and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be competing alongside The Hurt Locker for the CAS's motion picture prize.
On the TV side, AMC's Mad Men earned a nomination for its episode "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency."
The awards ceremony will take place Sat., Feb. 27 in Los Angeles and will also salute director Henry Selick. The career achievement award will be handed to Randy Thom, the director of sound design at Skywalker Sound.
