The Newsdesk 08.10.09 - G.I. Joe Attacks the Box Office; Giamatti to Be a Stooge

Nick Nadel

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra took the top spot at the box office this weekend with $56.2 million. Turns out not screening your movie for critics is the key to box office gold.

• Frank Langella has joined the cast of Oliver Stone's Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps. Is it too late to do something about that title?

• Rumor has it Steven Spielberg could be developing the Halo movie now that Peter Jackson is too busy with The Hobbit. Hopefully it'll stay with Spielberg now. If we're not careful, it'll end up in Michael Bay's hands.

• Paul Giamatti is rumored to be taking over for Sean Penn in the Three Stooges movie. Word is Jim Carrey is no longer attached to the project. Giamatti was born to be Curly.

• The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow will reteam with writer Mark Boal for action film Triple Frontier.

• Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge, and Connor Cruise are the leads for the upcoming Red Dawn remake. Sorry, but no one can replace Swayze, Sheen, and Thomas Howell. OK, maybe Thomas Howell.

• Taiwanese singer and actor Jay Chou will star opposite Seth Rogen in Green Hornet. Chou will be taking over the role for the departed Stephen Chow.
