The Newsdesk 05.13.09 - Pacino Will Blink; Kidman Bails on Woody

Nick Nadel

• Al Pacino will star in an adaptation of Blink, Malcolm Gladwell's non-fiction bestseller . The film is being pitched as "Scent of a Woman with a finance-y twist." So, basically, nothing like the book.

• Nicole Kidman has dropped out Woody Allen's latest untitled project. Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, and Naomi Watts are among the cast. Woody, just have Watts play two parts -- it worked in Mulholland Drive.

Esquire magazine called The Road "the most important movie of the year." No, that would be Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

• Rapper/actor Common could be playing B.A. Baracus in The A-Team movie. They would be a "fool" not to cast Mr. T as his dad.

• A beautician in St. Louis found the script for The Twilight Saga: New Moon in a trash can. No comment. We're afraid of Twilight fans.

Jane Campion's period piece Bright Star has been picked up for distribution prior to its debut at Cannes.

from Advertising Age - MediaWorks by jrash@cmithun.com (John Rash)
MINNEAPOLIS (AdAge.com) -- Single-camera sitcoms and elliptical, nonepisodic dramas have upped network TV's creative quotient this decade. But scripted series can still succeed, as Fox's "House" and CBS's "The Big Bang Theory" showed with their season finales Monday night.
