The Newsdesk 01.12.09 - Ledger's Family "Overjoyed" by Globe Nod; Cruise to Reprise Tropic Thunder Role

• The family of Heath Ledger released a statement saying they are "overjoyed" by the late actor's posthumous supporting actor win for his performance in The Dark Knight at last night's Golden Globes. Meanwhile, Mickey Rourke's comeback was solidified with his acting win for The Wrestler, and Slumdog Millionaire's Oscar hopes rose thanks to nods in multiple categories. A full list of the night's winners can be found here. (Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey's hilarious acceptance speeches can be viewed here.)

• Tom Cruise told reporters on the Globes' red carpet that he plans to reteam with Ben Stiller to bring back his Les Grossman character from Tropic Thunder. As long as Robert Downey Jr.'s Kirk Lazarus is onboard, so are we.

• Now that the party's over, Hollywood is facing a possible SAG strike, with heated talks to take place today. What does this mean for the upcoming SAG Awards? That's gonna be one empty auditorium.

• Clint Eastwood's snarl could frighten a dog, and his new film, Gran Torino, did just that, knocking Marley & Me off its box-office perch to take the top spot this past weekend.  Meanwhile, the Kate Hudson/Anne Hathaway comedy Bride Wars defied critics with a bigger than expected opening in second place.

• Sad news this past weekend as Patrick Swayze was hospitalized on Friday after coming down with pneumonia. The actor, who recently opened up to Barbara Walters about his ongoing battle with pancreatic cancer, was forced to miss a promotional appearance for his new TV series, The Beast.

• Russell Crowe's notorious temper has claimed another victim, as the actor reportedly caused Sienna Miller to depart the Nottingham movie during pre-production. The 2010 release involves a love triangle between Robin Hood (Crowe), Maid Marian (previously played by Miller), and the Sheriff of Nottingham (Crowe again.) Not even a soothing Bryan Adams ballad could save this troubled production.

• Finally, more Golden Globe red carpet news, this time in the form of a Dark Knight sequel bombshell dropped by Aaron Eckhart. Will Two-Face return for the next Batman outing? Didn't he, uh, (spoiler alert!) die at the end?
