• If you thought The Wrestler had a high per screen average when it opened at four locations last week, wait until you hear what happened when Saudi Arabia showed Mennahi, the first movie to screen in a theater in the conservative country in more than 30 years.
• Tina Fey is the Associated Press' Entertainer of the Year. Did voters pick her based on her Sara Palin impression? You betcha. Last year the honor went to Stephen Colbert.
• We're going back to the future: Tron 2 will be in 3D, Avatar is being made using a special 3D camera created by James Cameron, and of course there's the soon-to-be-released My Bloody Valentine 3D.
• The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is sending a special present to members this Friday -- their Oscar ballots. Nominations will be unveiled January 22.
• There is some fierce competition at the Christmas box office this year. "You have a slightly better calendar when Christmas is on a Wednesday, but that's being picky," Fox distribution president Bruce Snyder said. "Christmas on a Thursday is still pretty ideal."
