Star Wars doesn’t have the best track record with 70s variety shows. The newest video from our SciFi Department looks back on the infamous Life Day Special, but this clip from The Midnight Special gives us a peek into the more mundane appearances. Instead of making the most of Darth Vader's visit, they use him to help promote an upcoming salute to the music of Hoyt Axton (!?). I’m guessing the show's writers hadn't even see Star Wars. They have Darth Vader saying cliché alien lines like “Take me to your leader.” And if you look closely at Darth Vader's mask, you can see the actor rolling his eyes at that line. (Just kidding.)
