With news coming today of Meryl Streep's new contract to play food legend Julia Child in the adaptation of Julie Powell's wonderful book, Julia and Julie: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen, I began to think about Streep's great strength as an actress: that seemingly innate but important ability to make us believe we're seeing someone else on the screen.
